Frequently Asked Questions
Why do yoga?
There are countless excellent sources of information about yoga. Its history, the various practices, and its many benefits have been written about extensively. Below are just a few of the tangible benefits that can be achieved through yoga:
- Increases flexibility
- Increases lubrication of the joints, ligaments and tendons
- Massages the organs of the body
- Tones muscles
- Reduces stress (which in turn affects our physical, endocrinal and emotional systems – i.e. strengthens the immune system)
What do I need?
Please bring a yoga mat, a small blanket or towel, an empty stomach and an open mind. Bring a bottle of water if you need to take small sips during class. There are yoga straps and blocks available to use if you do not have your own. We practice yoga with bare feet. It is preferable that students wear clothing that enables the knee joints to be visible. Many students wear an outer layer such as a long-sleeve t-shirt for the first and last few minutes of class.
How are classes structured?
Classes begin in seated position for a couple of minutes, followed by a movement practice intended to create a sense of balance and ease. Classes end with Savasana (relaxation).
Do I need to be flexible to do yoga?
No, you do not have to be flexible to do yoga. As a matter of fact, feeling limitations in the body can not only alert us (I need to pause here and not go deeper) but also teach us to practice patience and kindness towards ourselves, which are amazing side benefits.
New participants, including beginners, are welcome and encouraged.
